Dying Matters
Awareness week 8th -14th May
The 8th Dying Matters campaign will be taking place in May and St. Clare’s
is joining in by hosting events aimed at getting people talking about dying,
death and bereavement.
This year the theme for Dying Matters week is ‘What can you do?’ with the
aim of getting people to think about plans they can make around dying.
Peter Johnson Funerals, Co-Op Funeral Care, David Gray Solicitors and
Bindman & Co Solicitors are all taking part by hosting informal sessions around funeral planning and Will writing. We
will also be asking staff, patients and volunteers to take part in making their ‘bucket list’ listing activities they’d like to
experience before they die. We’d also like our newsletter readers to join in by sending in pictures of their bucket list or by
using the hashtag #stcbucketlist on social media to share things they’d like to do.
Caroline Breheny, Corporate Fundraiser explained,
“We are very aware that sometimes the word Hospice can
be a barrier to someone accessing our services. Dying and bereavement are still subjects that people
feel uncomfortable discussing for many reasons. Equally sometimes people can be very wary of discussing
what they might want at their funeral or how they would want their estate to be shared in a Will. I
hope that we will see people coming along who might want to ask questions they have. Our aim is to
make sure that our supporters know all the options available to them and be equipped to make decisions
about what they might want.”

Make a Will Month
2017
During Make a Will Month participating solicitors in our area have agreed to give

All we ask is that you make a minimum donation to the Hospice of £70 for a single
Will and £95 for a pair of matching Wills. Writing a Will ensures your loved ones are
taken care of and that your wishes are carried out after you’re gone. So if the time is
right for you to make your Will, please utilise St. Clare’s Hospice Make a Will Month.
