St. Claires Hospice - Spring & Summer 2017 - page 5

Staff, businesses, and guests of the Hospice were given
official Hospice Care Is… cards and asked to write a word
or sentence that best represented what they thought of
hospice care in general. The results were wide and varied
with some fantastic thoughts and even some poems
which people felt best represented what St. Clare’s does.
The simple fact is we couldn’t care for as many people as
we do without the support of people like you who donate
money and time which enables us to keep supporting
people with the services we have at St. Clare’s.
The campaign proved to be very successful in breaking
down the barriers of the work that hospices do and to
make people less afraid of coming into a hospice setting.
Businesses that supported the campaign included Peter
Johnson Funerals, TSB Sunderland, Utilitywise and
Barclays Bank Jarrow Branch.
Hospice Care Week will be taking place once again from
the 9th to 15th October 2017, we are busy planning
our activities and more details will be revealed in the
next edition of our newsletter. If you’d like to help during
Hospice Care Week or hold your own awareness event,
please do contact us on 0191 529 7111 or email
The Hospice showed its support to the national Hospice Care Week campaign by holding an information
event for local businesses to attend and by asking patients and relatives of their views on hospices.
Hospice Care week is a national campaign organised by Hospice UK which aims to raise the profile of
hospice care across the UK.
