Volunteering in the spotlight
Volunteers are vital to our retail operation helping us to keep stores open and raising
funds and awareness for
your local
Hospice.
LindseyWarner began volunteeringat our FrederickStreet store after completinga6-week
work placement with Job Centre Plus. She has now been with us for six months and has
shown great commitment as well as an understanding of charity retail. Volunteering is not
only beneficial to us as a hospice, it also helps build key skills and confidence.
Shirley Sutton, shop manager explained, “We have seen the confidence build in Lindsey
every day since she started; the shop would not be the same without her! When Lindsey
first started we couldn’t get a word out of her, she quietly tagged clothes in the back area
and never wanted to go out on the shop floor. Now she won’t stay quiet and is excellent
with the customers. We were very proud of Lindsey last month as she had an interview
for a job. I felt very proud that she had gained the confidence and knowledge to apply
for a job in the charity retail sector, any business will be very lucky to have her as an
employee and she would be extremely missed by all of us”

Standing proud in Frederick
Street!
A £30million plan to improve a South Tyneside shopping street
has taken a major step forward. Work to demolish the empty
properties at the southern end of Frederick Street in South
Shields to make way for new housing in the Laygate area has
started! It’s a vibrant new neighbourhood and we are standing
central.
Last year you may have noticed that our store in Frederick Street
had been closed on certain days or the shop had to close early
due to lack of volunteers.
Now, we are very pleased to say we are open 10am-3:30pm Monday to Saturday. We have appointed Shirley Sutton as
our shop manager who works extremely hard alongside a great team of volunteers. The shop has been transformed and
we encourage all readers to go and visit our store.
Come and take a look at our treasures
!
We have a great selection of donated furniture, bric-a-brac, entertainment and clothing to pick from and look forward to
seeing you in store.
Frederick Street in the Spotlight! As we continue to implement our retail strategy we will be bringing you the latest news
and improvements made to our stores. This time we are focusing on Frederick Street and the development in the area.
