The Bereavement Counselling team take referrals for counselling
from typical grief reaction to complex grief issues. The
Bereavement Counselling team has two areas for counselling
sessions, The Hospice base in Jarrow as well as a room
at Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre, South Shields. The
bereavement team consists of fully qualified counsellors as well
as counsellors in training.
We have recently set up a new voluntary Befriending Service
to offer support and friendship to those affected by life-limiting
illnesses and who are socially isolated. A team of five volunteers
have been recruited and are managed by a Befriending Co-
ordinator. They have all been fully trained in order for them to carry
out their roles. The team have varying backgrounds, some of
them already volunteer in a different area with St. Clare’s and who
wanted the opportunity to be part of this exciting new service.
