St. Claires Hospice - Annual Review 2015 - page 9

07
The Day Care Unit has welcomed 75 new patients over the past
year to its services which is an increase on last year’s figures.
However, further promotion to highlight the benefits of Day Care
to those patients whom have been diagnosed with life-limiting
illnesses, is still needed. Our aim is to help manage and support the
patients physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual well-being
by developing care plans that meet their needs and are regularly
reviewed and updated by the nursing team.
St. Clare’s Day Unit provides 20 places each day Monday to Friday
and is open between 10am and 3.30pm. There is a timetable of
activities arranged over the week for patients to access including:
computer classes, arts and crafts, exercise classes, educational
visits and entertainment shows. We can also refer our day patients
for a week/fortnights respite to the In-Patient Unit should the need
be required and bed availability.
We recognise the importance of the role of the carer and we can offer
drop in days and access to our complementary therapy services.
St. Clare’s Day Unit is a small supportive team putting the patient
and their families at the centre of everything we do. Unfortunately,
our Consultant-led Out-Patient Clinic is not currently operational
due to recent retirement but we are hoping this will restart on the
commencement of new consultants in the near future.
