There are so many fun and simple ways which you can help us to raise money for patient care. We rely on
the support of the community to fundraise on our behalf. However big or small, everything you do really
does make a difference!

Mini Fundraisers
We know the thought of organising a big event can sometimes be daunting, but why not do something simple like a cake
sale at work or even a tea party in the comfort of your home with friends. Fundraising brings people together over a great
cause and can be a lot of fun. And if you still think you can’t fundraise, here’s some inspiration from little people with huge
determination:
Meet Kimberley Morton, aged six from Boldon Colliery
who had 19-inches of her hair cut off to donate to the
Little Princess Trust and raised over £1,000 for St. Clare’s
Hospice. The 6-year-old who attends West Boldon
Primary, was inspired to cut off her hair after seeing a
television programme about little girls who cut off their hair
to give to children with cancer in America.
Mum Laura Morton, 36, said: “Once she gets an idea into
her head she has to go through with it. I am incredibly
proud of Kim. She adored her hair and was complimented
on it wherever she went; she has given up something that
is very precious to her because she is sad that there are
people out there who haven’t got their own.”
Mrs Morton who supported her daughter by also cutting
her hair said: “We decided to fundraise for St. Clare’s
Hospice as it’s a local charity, we have connections with
the Hospice through friends and we feel that we will see
where the money is going and how it is spent. Hospice’s
always do amazing and sometimes thankless work.
Another kind hearted youngster transformed his bedroom
into a winter wonderland to raise funds for the Hospice.
Dylan Simpson, aged 10 from South Shields, who lives with
mum Jill, dad Richard and baby sister Ava (pictured), then
invited his friends and family to look around, asking them to
make a donation on the door raising £57.60.
Speaking to the Shields Gazette, Mum Jill, 32, said: “His
room was covered in trees, lights and decorations that he’s
collected over the years. Every time we try to throw an old
decoration away, he won’t let us, he keeps it for himself and
even goes out with his pocket money in the January sales
to buy more. He did it like this last year too.
“He asked about local charities and I told him about St.
Clare’s and that my nana Vera Grant used to work there.
He said he wanted to raise money to help the Hospice and
asked everyone to make a donation before coming in to see
his bedroom. He said they didn’t have to if they didn’t have
any money but that it would all go to St Clare’s. I’m so proud
of him, he always thinks of others.”
St. Clare’s Mini Fundraisers are incredibly inspirational and forever creative with their fundraising techniques… we think they
may be raising the bar higher for adults! These children are proof that all you need to fundraise is determination and a big
heart! If you or your children could hold a fundraising event for St. Clare’s, please give us a call on 0191 529 7111.
