X Factor’s Lola Saunders
goes behind the scenes at
St. Clare’s!
The staff and patients at St. Clare’s were delighted to
receive a visit from 21-year-old, Lola Saunders who made
it to the live finals of last year’s X Factor. Lola was invited
for a tour of St. Clare’s Hospice ahead of her performance
at our Rainbow Run.
Lola, from East Boldon, was shown around the Hospice
by Clinical Nurse Manager, Vicky Bracey. The tour started
in the Day Care lounge where Lola chatted with patients.
A few of the ladies attending Day Care that day wanted to
capture the moment they met the X Factor star by taking
a selfie with Lola.
One of the patients to grab a photo with Lola was Pauline
Jameson, who has attends our Day Care every Thursday.
When asked about Lola’s visit, Pauline explained, “We
didn’t know Lola was coming so it was such a surprise
when she walked into the Day Care lounge. I remember
watching her on the X Factor last year and was rooting
for her to win.
“Lola is such a lovely girl, very friendly and caring. She
seemed really interested in what we were doing and how
we spent our time at the Hospice.
“I told Lola all about the celebrations we had for Jenny’s 99th Birthday (Jenny Scott who featured in our last newsletter) and
she has promised to come back and sing for her 100th!”
During her visit, Lola was particularly interested in the activity the Day Care
patients were doing. Day Care patient Agnes Campbell proudly showed
Lola the brass rubbing that she was working on.
After popping into the Day Care lounge, the tour continued to the In-Patient
Unit where Lola was shown a vacanct room and told about the other
services on offer such as lymphoedema, physiotherapy and bereavement
counselling.
When asked about her visit to St. Clare’s, Lola said: “It’s been an amazing
experience. I came down to the Hospice to find out a lot more about it and
what it entails, all the facilities it has and what events it’s got on. I’ve met the
lovely people in the Day Care Unit, that I wasn’t aware they had, and I’ve seen
the rest of the facilities and they’re amazing, I’m gob smacked by it. I’ve also
found out about not only what they do for the In-Patients and guests but also
what they do for the community as a whole, which is truly amazing.”
Clinical Nurse Manager, Vicky Bracey who has worked at St. Clare’s for over 14 years said “It was a pleasure to show Lola
around the Hospice. It’s not very often that younger people show an interest in the work we do but Lola had lots of questions
and was keen to learn more about St. Clare’s. All of the staff and patients really enjoyed her visit and we all wish her well for
the future”.
